Question: What should I include in my Employee Handbook?Answer:
Your business’s Employee Handbook should set the expectations for your employees and their behaviour at work.
You should address your working hours, expected attendance and punctuality and how you expect your employees to conduct themselves. You should also cover superannuation obligations, deductions from salary, withholding of salary and other payments for tax. You should cover in detail leave entitlements and how leave is approved, including holidays, parental leave or sick leave. You should cover the expected dress code and uniforms if applicable.
It is also now a good idea to have a detailed Internet, Email and social media use policy for the use of company devices and social media generally. You should also cover bullying, discrimination and harassment as well include a detailed workplace health and safety policy section as businesses must meet their obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth) by providing a healthy and safe workplace for their employees.
You should also set out your complaints handling policy and a disciplinary action clause
