Following the trial, you will receive the judgment on the case. After this, you still may need to take further steps to achieve your desired outcome.

For example, if the judge found that the other party needs to pay you back a debt, that money will not immediately be transferred into your account. Instead, the other party might appeal the judgement. Alternatively, you may need to undergo an enforcement process if they do not pay the money back.

What is a Judgment?

The judgment is the final decision and determination in your case that the judge makes. It sets out:

  • which party is successful;
  • the reasons why; and
  • what each part must do following the judgement.

For example, if you are successful, the judgment will outline the amount of money that the defendant must pay to you. The judgment may also outline the decision about who should pay the legal costs. This may also be pushed over to be dealt with at a later time.

What Will My LegalVision Team Be Doing?

Your LegalVision team will likely be attending court for the judgment to be delivered if this did not occur following the trial.

Following this, your LegalVision team will be reviewing and considering any written judgment handed down. This can sometimes be a very lengthy document. They will then report to you on the outcome and explain the legal basis for the decision.

If the judgment has not been awarded in your favour, your LegalVision Team, together with your barrister, will consider if there is any basis for appeal.
