10 Things to Know Before You Bring Your Startup to Australia: 1 – Australia’s Ecosystem

This chapter is an extract from LegalVision’s 10 Things To Know Before You Bring Your Startup to Australia Guide. Download the full guide here.

Snapshot of Australia’s Startup Ecosystem

Australia’s startup ecosystem is made up of roughly 1,500 Australian startups and an increasing number of coworking spaces, incubators, accelerators and venture capitalists.

Australian venture capitalists including AirTree Ventures, Blackbird, SquarePeg, Telstra Ventures and Artesian are willing to take big risks with strong, globally-focused startups.

Australian startups and investors are embracing innovative types of funding including venture debt, convertible notes and Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFEs). In September 2017, the Australian Government allowed public companies to crowd-source equity, opening another channel for startups to access capital.
