Question: What restrictions are there for advertising alcohol?
Answer:The Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code (ABAC) has a Responsible Alcohol Marketing Code that restricts advertisements from showing or encouraging excessive drinking, showing or encouraging irresponsible or offensive behaviour, challenges or dares people to drink or encourages the consumption of a particular product because of its strength of alcohol percentage. The advertisement must not have a strong appeal to people under 18, depict a minor consuming alcohol, suggest alcohol contributes to a change in mood, personal achievement or is necessary for relaxation, among other restrictions. If your business sells and is planning on advertising alcohol, then it would be wise to thoroughly consult the Code and adhere to its requirements.
