Question: What do I do if I think my employer is paying me incorrectly?
Answer:If you are not being paid what you have agreed with your employer, either verbally or in a written document/employment contract, they will be in breach of that contract. You can approach your employer directly about the breach and seek to resolve the issue informally.
However if your employer denies any breach and feel that your claim is inconsistent with the agreement you had with them, you should consult an employment lawyer who can help you send a letter of demand to your employer to resume proper payment, or engage in dispute resolution between employer and employee.
In certain industries there are also laws setting out minimum wage rates – you should also check that you are at least being paid the minimum.
