No, not necessarily. If you are a sole trader you may still employ workers. However, you will be required to meet the same obligations as any employer, including workplace health and safety obligations, meeting the National Employment Standards and meeting tax and super obligations. There are of course many reasons that you may consider changing your business structure from a sole trader to a company, particularly where you are a growing business or plan on growth.
