What are Cookies?

Cookies contain data and information specific to an internet user. Cookies are commonly used for website analytics and data sharing between platforms.  Once you load a website, you’re sending information to the browser and accordingly creating a cookie.

Cookies live in the directories of browsers on computers. They are stored as text files and typically contain two different types of information:

  1. site name; and
  2. user ID.

By allowing a cookie sender to use cookies on your system, a  server automatically sends a cookie to your browser. Consequently, the browser returns the cookie every time you accesses the same server. This information allows a server to tailor and deliver pages to the specific user. The information carries over from one website to the next.
