Meet Emmanuel Giuffre
Emmanuel is a Practice Leader in LegalVision’s Construction and Property teams. He enjoys the autonomy and flexibility that come with his role as Practice Leader. He thrives on the challenge of working with businesses of different sizes. No two matters or clients are ever the same, which means he’s always learning.
Give us a day in the life of Emmanuel.
5:30am: I either start my day with a cross training session or do a class by the beach. Then I head home to get my dogs, walk them to the beach and grab a coffee. After our walk, I’m back home and log onto my emails to ensure there’s nothing urgent and then get in the car around 9:30. If LegalVision is hosting yoga that morning, I’ll head in earlier for a yoga class.
10am: At the office, I start by previewing the matters for the day. I’ll check emails again; there might be two or three new matters that have come in. One might be a contract that needs to be drafted. We’ll chat to the client to understand their needs as best as possible. We may have an enterprise client, who sends in a contract for a master IT procurement tender worth $20-30 million. I’ll speak to the client, obtain their instructions and get to work.
12:30pm: Lunch! I’ll enjoy a salad followed by a nice walk down to the water for another coffee. I’ll walk for around half an hour, all the way to Jacksons Landing until I see the bridge, and come back.
1:30pm: After lunch, I have a team meeting with the other lawyers to discuss updating precedents to make them user-friendly. We aim to convert them into automated documents. I’ll also have around three contracts on my desk. One of them might be a manufacturing contract for a small to medium-sized business, the second may be a distribution agreement for a mid-market client and the final contract may be a review for an enterprise FinTech client.
2pm: I’ll review the matters with a team member and then we’ll finalise them and send them to the client.
4:30pm: I check in with one of my team members who is working from Germany.
7:00pm: Time to start wrapping up and then head home.
7:45pm: I cook dinner. A typical dinner might be vegan nachos and a glass of wine. I’ll have my dinner while trying to learn Italian on Duolingo and I’ll have Netflix on in the background while I’m unwinding.
What’s your key motivation?
Doing challenging work in a relaxed environment. And my colleagues, who I respect and genuinely enjoy working with.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
The autonomy and flexibility. I also love that I get to work with a variety of business sizes. There’s something quite special about working with SME clients who are quite invested in the advice you’re giving and the projects they’re working on. But I still like the challenges of working with complex deals and sophisticated clients at the enterprise level.
What surprised you most about working at LegalVision?
It doesn’t feel anything like a law firm.
What’s an unexpected skill you developed at LegalVision?
When I joined LV, I came on as a construction lawyer. I didn’t realise I’d be leading a general commercial practice that deals with SME, mid-market and enterprise markets across a full range of matters.
The breadth of experience that I’ve gotten has been unexpected.
What are your top three daily must-haves?
- coffee machine;
- my team; and
- my smartwatch, which reminds me to get up and walk around every half hour.
