Safe Work Australia is a national body which develops policy in relation to national workplace and health safety issues, each state also has their own workplace and health standards which you should be aware of. Each state also regulates and administers each state’s specific regulations. Many industries also have their own government bodies which cover that particular industry such as mining. The Safe Work Australia agency was established under the Safe Work Australia Act in 2008. Safe Work Australia is responsible for developing the model Work Health and Safety Act which was finalised in 2011 and most states have now enacted it. However Victoria and WA have not yet taken on the WHS model Act and implemented it.
